Tri Fold Shutter Instructions
Card Base
1. One piece of 12” x 12” cardstock will make two card bases. Card bases should measure 5½” x 12”.
2. Score the card base at 2”, 4”, 8” and 10”.
3. Measuring down 1 ½” from the top of the card, cut the card from the 2” score line to the 10” score line. (Repeat on the bottom of the card.)
4. Fold the card as follows, from left to right:
Top row: Mountain fold, valley fold, mountain fold, valley fold
Middle row: First fold already done, mountain fold, valley fold, last fold already done
Bottom row: First fold already done, valley fold, mountain fold, last fold already done
When folded the card should look like this:
Paper Pieces
Use a combination of patterned paper and coloured cardstock. You will need four or five different patterns/colours.
A Pieces – Cut 2 out of patterned paper #1 at 1 ¾” x 5 ¼”.
B Pieces – Cut 2 out of patterned paper #2 at 1 ¾” x 2 ¼”.
C Pieces – Cut 2 out of patterned paper #3 at 3 ¾” x 1 ¼”.
D Pieces – Cut 4 out of patterned paper #4 at 1 ¾” x 1 ¼”.
Adhere the cut pieces to the appropriate spots on the card.
Decorate as desired using stamping, die cuts etc. (Best to stamp on the cut pieces before adhering to the card base.)
TIPS:
- Most designs using this card type, do pairings of cardstock patterns. You don’t have to follow the exact pattern above. Instead of doing four squares the same (D), I like to have diagonal pairs. Top left and bottom right the same. Top right and bottom left the same. Find the pattern that works for you.
- If you want to frame the squares/rectangles, use the cutting sizes above. Then cut the paper piece for the middle area, ¼” smaller.
Smaller Card Option (Uses 8 ½” x 11” paper for base):
To use 8 .5” x 11” paper for your cardbase, use the following dimensions: 5 ½” x 10 ½”.
Score as follows:
1 ¾”, 3 ½ ”, 7”, 8 ¾”
